Hey, I’m Kristin!

My photography journey began using cameras as scientific tools and slowly grew into a creative passion. Initially, I used photography to study sea otter skull morphology and evolution within the mammalogy collection of the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture in Seattle, WA. Later, I used photography in the field to document and identify individual whales with NOAA’s Alaska Ecosystems Program working in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. It wasn’t until I began working as a whale watching naturalist and guide here in Southern California that I started to use photography as a creative outlet.

I am not currently selling prints and am instead working on various freelance projects throughout the year including work within the scientific community, in documentary film, and marine education.

My early years were spent scribbling notes on natural history topics. The wildlife guides and blog posts found here are as much of a reference for myself as they are for you to enjoy. Photography is a lifelong pursuit and I look forward to where the future will take me!
